Among the many ways to beautify your bathroom, the ranks as perhaps the most overlooked. Let's face it-most of the time you'll see a bathrobe or towel draped over one. Despite the fact your robe hook will spend most of its days totally hidden, the need for one remains. So make the best of a small, but very important, fixture.
What's their purpose?
Placed on a wall or the back of a door, a robe hook is an accessory designed to (1) hold a robe or towel and (2) complement the fixtures around it. And the name "robe hook" might be misleading, since it's not always a hook, but merely something on which to drape a towel. If you can imagine a theme or finish for the hook, it exists. In addition, any manufacturer that produces lavatory fixtures will likely have a robe hook in its arsenal, such as Kohler's Purist robe hook and Delta's Victorian robe hook. A robe hook may seem like a no-brainer, but don't disregard it. This is your chance to complete your design statement with elegance and a keen eye for style. And like everything else in your bathroom, robe hooks have their own personality. Styles range from the ornate to the perfectly functional to the outrageous. Use the bathroom as a template to decorate and display your design acumen.
Installation
Robe hook installation is about as easy as it gets, but wood blocking is the preferred backing for robe hooks. If not, then we suggest tile/masonry-plastic or lead anchors plaster/drywall-toggle bolts. The following instructions and required mounting hardware come courtesy of Delta's Innovations robe hook. Your materials-needed list may not be this extensive (oftentimes, just a screwdriver is enough).
- Pencil
- Masking tape
- ¼-inch carbide drill bit (if you're drilling into ceramic tile)
- Electric drill
- Phillips screwdriver
- Level
Put 'em up
- With a pencil, outline the mounting bracket
- Mark the location of the mounting screws
- If you're mounting into ceramic tile, place masking tape at the site prior to marking the location to help prevent the drill bit from sliding across the tile
- With a ¼-inch diameter carbide drill bit, drill ¼-inch holes and push anchors flush with the wall
- Fasten the mounting bracket to the wall
- Place the robe hook over the bracket and tighten the set screw And that's it. Now that you've installed your robe hook, don't forget to round out your bathroom décor with other accessories, like tissue holders, towel rings and shelves
