The Golden Lighting 7116-M1L must be installed with the chain, however, you could limit the number of links to one.

What is the diameter of the canopy plate?

The canopy on the Golden Lighting 7116-M1L mini pendant measures 5-1/2" in diameter. It is the only canopy designed to fit this pendant. If you were to find a smaller replacement elsewhere, it would not match the finish correctly. I hope this helps!
